Official GOP Presdential Nominee!

In the News: With the Senator's win in the Super Tuesday Part Deux Primaries (March 5th in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont), McCain clinched the Gop nimination, forcing out Huckabee to win more than the required 1,191 delegates to earn the nomination. After his expected sweep, McCain also received the backing of his former rival Mike Huckabee, and a rather awkward, distanced endorsement from President George W. Bush II. McCain went on to distance himself from the promonent, controversial televangalist John Hagee, who endorsed him last month (Hagee has been very anti-Semitic, Catholic, social issues, etc.), and pick up former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiornia as the "campaign surrogate," charged with fundraising and "getting-out-the-vote." McCain wrapped up his week with leading a congressional delegation to visit to the Middle East and Europe, and will return on Easter Sunday.

While McCain has secured the nomination, I predict that the Democrats (especially after they choose a nominee) will increase their attacks on McCain. Moreover, since McCain has already secured the nomination, will he continue campaigning in states such as Pennsylvania (with a primary April 22nd)? If McCain stops campaigning in future states (since he is the nominee), I believe this will alienate some Republican and Independent voters in November.

I find McCain's trip to the Middle East and Europe of unusual timing; Is he doing something while the Democrats duke it out, so he can say he did more than campaign in the last year or is he after international donnors? Also, I am curious as to who McCain's Vice Presidential Nominee will be--it seems that finding a candidate would be more important to McCain now than a trip; not to mention the publicity he is giving up just after winning round one of the 2008 historic race.
