McCain and the Hard Road Ahead

With the devastating loss over two weeks ago, John McCain has to shift gears and have a different mindset going back to the Senate. After almost two years of campaigning, McCain aides say that he is ready and happy to go back to the lower profile job in congress. His ability to maintain a low profile will be hard, especially since there are many Republicans that think the McCain campaign did not properly represent the party or was completely incompetent. With McCain's ability to "reach across the aisle", and Obama's promise to the American people to leave the partisan politics of old, we may see more of McCain in the future, possibly working for Obama.

What about McCain's meeting with Obama? Anything on that?

I think McCain has a great opportunity to be a leader in his party again and to once again live up to his name as a maverick.

We had some friends over last night who are loyal Republicans and voted for McCain and Palin (albeit hesitantly after Palin was added to the ticket), and they expressed their frustration over McCain's pandering to the far right throughout the campaign. They readily admitted that he was not the John McCain they knew and respected and they were disappointed by the campaing he ran.

I believe that Obama has already given McCain the opportunity (hence their meeting) to repair his image and once again gain the trust and admiration that so many had for him before the campaign.
