SNL

John McCain absolutely stunk on SNL. Cindy, on the other hand, was hilarious; especially when she talked about the fine gold necklaces.

That's quite a critique. Actually, I thought he was pretty funny with the QVC shopping sketch--and Cindy McCain's quick cameo with the jewelry was a hoot. It showed the side of John McCain that Americans are comfortable with and really enjoy. It's always nice to see that amidst the nastiness of a campaign, our political culture is such that we can stop and laugh at each other and ourselves. If only we could figure out how to export that part of democracy to countries like Kenya, then we'd really be onto something.

Yea, I agree. I really enjoyed "McCain Fine Gold" and it looked like McCain was able to be himself, even for just a couple minutes. It seemed to me that from the beginning of the campaign, McCain was forced to keep his real self hidden, and stick only to the talking points. It was as if some shady Karl Rove type character approached McCain way back when his campaign was all but lost and said, "Do you want the nomination? Then shutup and only say what I tell you you can say." The media darling John McCain of years past vanished, as he sacrificed his Straight Talk Express and replaced it with all of the negative campaign ads.

It should be really interesting to see McCain's take on the election in the weeks to come, and see how he views the campaign as a whole. Especially if he defends Palin or not...
