John "Rocky" McCain

In the News: McCain and Romney have begun some serious campaign jabs as the competition heats up before the big Florida primaries; the Senator has been criticizing the former Mass. Governor about his Iraq record and "flip-flopping" on issues, while Romney also claims that McCain has been reshuffling his positions, and is being "untruthful" about Romney's record. Meanwhile, Florida internet searches for "John McCain" have increased by an impressive 50% since this time last month, while searches for McCain's other rival, Guliani, are down 60%.

Endorsements: This weekend, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty will be hitting the Florida campaign trail for the Senator. Meanwhile, Fred Thompson's former finance chairman, Scooter Clippard, has signed on with the McCain campaign, with Thompson's supporters still up for grabs. This past week McCain picked up the support of the Philadelphia Enquirer and the New York Times, as well as that of the Latin Builder's Association in Miami, and Senator Mel Martinez of Florida (which is unfortunate for Guliani, who had been heavily courting the Cuban-American vote). Also, Sylvester Stallone, best known for his role as "Rocky Balboa," has announced his support of the Senator: WHAT NOW CHUCK NORRIS?!?!

It seems that McCain is continuing to ascend in the public eye and many people are now predicting that he will gain the Republican nomination. This is a true testament to the unpredicatability of the Republican race, as McCain wasn't even considered a threat 6 months ago! Furthermore, if he gains the Cuban vote, as you predicted, he will most likely defeat Giuliani, and go on to win a lot of the more moderate states such as New York, California, etc. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens on January 29!

Wow, I cannot beleive how much buzz McCain has created in the last couple months. He seems to be the front runner in the Republican race, but it is still to close to call. But it all comes down to the final months when the campaign jabs start to catch on and the public gets word of them. It seems like Romney is trying to hold on for his seat in this race by starting to bash McCain. Certainly, all of the endorsements help McCains campaign though. It seems that he has been endorsed by some heavy hitters. We will see what happens in Florida and if he does beat out Giuliani!

With the Republican Primary in Florida under way, it will be interesting to see the winner. If McCain wins over Giuliani, Romney and Huckabee will that be enough to propel him to winning the Republican Nomination? In addition to the increase of the Floridian’s interest in John McCain, the recent endorsements from local latino-politicans could be enough of an edge to win in this crucial state.

I predit that McCain will win the Florida Republican primary on Tuesday, but onyl by a small margin. He'll likely pick up the Cuban vote and many of the more moderate Republicans in Florida. Most polls indicate that the Republican vote is split in 2, 3, or even 4 ways in some. Despite the division, McCain would take all of Florida's delegates if he won and would benefit tremendously from the media coverage going into Super Tuesday.

What a huge win for McCain in Florida. He has now solidified the position as front runner for the Republican Party. His entire demeanor has changed over the last few weeks. At the start of the race he was constantly ruffled, and upset. Now, after much success, he has calmed down and seems to sit back and act in a much for composed manner. The Americans are riding the "McCain Train" and I don't know if anyone can slow it down.
