Post-Caucus Evaluation: The McCain Surge

Iowa: Despite coming in fourth place at the "ballot" boxes, McCain's overall chances are looking up; Romney's lackluster performance, coupled with Huckabee's semi-"Iowan surprise," make the Senator look more presidential by the minute.
Not Iowa: In Michigan, he was recently endorsed by the Detroit News, and New Hampshire, he recently beat out former frontrunner Romney in the polls. There is also some speculation that, of all the GOP hopefuls, McCain would attract the most Independents at the ballot box, a very significant (if not the most significant) voting pool.

After listening about the history of the New Hampshire primary on the podcast, John McCain's name stood out to me. It stood out to me specifically when Bruce Carlson mentioned George Romney and Richard Nixon's names. Richard Nixon had just come out of a six year hiatus in which he was away from the national stage. New Hampshire was what Nixon used to ignite his comeback, and it gave him a second chance.

I think this relates to McCain's situation. It is said that McCain is concentrating on derailing Romney, in hopes of making a comeback after he did not do as well as he may of hoped in the Iowa caucuses. But it sounds like he is doing a lot of the right things heading into the New Hampshire primary, and it's key that he picked up another endorsement from Detroit News. I also think that since he attracts most of the Independent voters, he could fare well in New Hampshire. New Hampshire could end up providing for McCain what it did for Nixon, and it should be fun to watch the results as they unfold.
